Tanga

Tanga Region, on Tanzania’s northeastern coast, has a varied cash-crop base. It contributes a small but recognized share of national cashew output. Its higher-altitude Eastern Arc districts — Lushoto, Muheza, and Mkinga — are established spice-growing areas producing cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, ginger, and chilli, and Tanga is grouped with Morogoro and Mbeya as one of the country’s three main cardamom/pepper-producing regions. Muheza District is also cited as a vanilla-growing area. The Tanzania Forest Services Agency lists Tanga among its priority regions for beekeeping investment. Historically, Tanga was also the main export port for sisal and coffee grown in the Usambara Mountains.
