Songwe

Songwe Region was split from Mbeya Region in 2016 and lies in Tanzania’s Southern Highlands. It is named alongside Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Mbeya, and Ruvuma among the leading Arabica coffee regions. Songwe is also one of four regions reported producing cocoa nationally, and Ileje District within Songwe is cited as a vanilla-growing area alongside Mbeya’s Rungwe and Kyela districts. Because Songwe was carved out of Mbeya relatively recently, some historical agricultural statistics are still reported jointly with Mbeya, and current sourcing on Songwe’s specific production volumes remains thinner than for cashew- or clove-producing regions.
