Morogoro

Morogoro Region, in eastern Tanzania at the base of the Uluguru Mountains, is one of the country’s four cocoa-producing regions alongside Mbeya, Songwe, and Tanga, with production associated with the Kilombero Valley (home to specialty sourcing operation Kokoa Kamili). Morogoro is also listed with Tanga and Mbeya as a producer of cardamom, black pepper, and related spices, reflecting its share of the Eastern Arc mountain chain. Its eastern, higher-rainfall districts are additionally cited as a minor vanilla-growing area. Morogoro’s spice and cocoa production is smaller and less concentrated than the cashew belt to the south or the clove islands, but recurs consistently as a secondary producer of all three commodities.
