Mbeya

Mbeya Region, in Tanzania’s Southern Highlands near Lake Nyasa, is a multi-crop production area. It is named among the country’s leading Arabica coffee regions, and is also the center of Tanzanian cocoa: around 80% of national cocoa is reported grown in Kyela District specifically, with Rungwe and Busokelo districts also producing cocoa, much of it under organic management. Rungwe, Kyela, and Mbeya Rural districts are additionally cited as vanilla-growing areas, and Mbeya is listed alongside Tanga and Morogoro as a producer of cardamom, black pepper, chilli pepper, and cumin. The Tanzania Forest Services Agency lists Mbeya among its priority regions for beekeeping investment.
