Tanzania Trade Numbers: September 2026 Digest

The first edition of a recurring monthly digest, sourced directly from the Bank of Tanzania’s Monthly Economic Review — the single most current, free, primary-source publication of Tanzania’s trade numbers.

Headline export figures

Tanzania’s exports rose 16.5% year-on-year to USD 19,985.8 million in the year to July 2026. Gold remains the standout performer: export value up 37.4% to USD 5,670.7 million, now accounting for 47.4% of goods export earnings — effectively confirming gold’s position as Tanzania’s single most important export commodity by value, ahead of any agricultural crop.

Why we’re starting with Bank of Tanzania, not a private data vendor

Several commercial platforms sell Tanzania shipment-level trade data (Volza, ExportGenius and similar bulk data-resale services among them). We’re not competing with those, and this digest isn’t the place to try. The Bank of Tanzania’s Monthly Economic Review and Quarterly Statistical Bulletin are free, government-primary, and published on a reliable schedule — which makes them the right backbone for a recurring, citable “what changed this month” summary, even though they’re narrative and macro rather than shipment-level.

What we’ll track each month
